Post Re: How to Dismantle and Clean a 50mm Lens

I want to dismantle an A 50mm lens to remove the glass. Do you know if it would be the same process as dismantling the M or is it likely to be a bit more complicated because of the A setting ?

Thanks;
Charlotte

The A lenses are pretty much identical to the M ones, only thing is they have a plastic finishing ring which may be harder to unscrew. The two element carriers unscrew in the same way though.

I expect you're probably right as well DS.

I'm not sure whether or not it's going to work though - we'll see. At least with the older lenses I can take them to bits and put them back together again without having to break them first. Laughing So I won't have lost anything if it doesn't work.

I also have a 2 x macro converter with contacts that's probably going to lose it's glass and become a helicoil extension tube. (but Ssshhhh Top Secret experiments going on here Wink )

Post Re: How to Dismantle and Clean a 50mm Lens

Just to update anyone who might have been interested.

The A50mm 1.7 is a thing of beauty and I can't bring myself to do anything to it apart from use it properly. Embarassed

It's one thing destroying a plastic mass produced lens which lacks personality but it's a completely different matter entirely possibly mucking up what looks like a hand crafted precision instrument.

Thinking cap on and back to the drawing board.

Charlotte x

Post Re: How to Dismantle and Clean a 50mm Lens

The A50 f/1.7 is one of the best standard lenses ever made. I've actually got 3 of them
2 came with Super A bodies that I bought.

Unfortunately there are too many Pentax 50mm's on the SH market and the value
has dropped to about £40 for the A 1.7 so I wouldn't hesitate removing the glass,
you would still be using the lens Wink

Maybe keep your eyes open for a cheap 50/1.7 or 50/2 with a damaged front element?
