Post Re: A creature...

Fascinating. What lens did you use and what's the effective magnification?

Post Re: A creature...

Hi Steve,

t'was the MP-E65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro - I don't know at what magnification though, I didn't make a note I just kept turning until it filled the frame, it doesn't show on the Exif info either. 'tis a couple of images stacked to get the DOF though.

This lens loses sharpness at f8 it's sharp enough from f8 - f16 for normal 1:1 macro work but at higher magnification it's not sharp enough for me - so I have to use f5.6 which is as sharp as a sharp thing but obviously that means losing a lot of DOF.

It's a PITA really, not many creatures stand still long enough to get off more than one shot - so at the moment I'm photographing creatures that freeze in position when a camera is pointed at them for a few moments before they drop to the ground.

This lens is certainly a 'learning curve' I definitely wouldn't recommend someone starting their macro journey using it.

'tis fun though. Laughing
