Alan - thank you for the comments.

The K5 does give a useful image in IR, but only when the exposure is several seconds so a tripod is essential. You'll get a very red image, so shoot in RAW and then change the white balance later. Try long exposures in M mode and adjust according to what you see on the screen - don't trust the metering!
